エキゾチックカーブローカー、ケイリブくんに【クルマと仕事】についてインタビュー

INTERVIEW> Caleb AkAStuntMan

We’ve all seen his trademarked mohawk at SEMA parties, Gumball 3000 parties and clubs in Hollywood. Between him and his partner, they pretty much have everything from Maybach to Lamborghini. But people don’t know what he does or where he comes from. Kenta, a managing editor of Tokyo Drive Magazine and a long time friend, interviewed him for the first time.

SEMAやGumball 3000など業界系のパーティーやハリウッドのクラブでもいつも目にするモヒカン＋イレズミ。マイバッハからランボルギーニまで、彼とパートナーを合わせれば持っていないクルマはないというカーコレクション。　誰もが彼を知っているけど、何をやっていて、どこから来たのかは知らない。そこで、長年にわたり親交のあるTokyo Drive Magazineが彼にインタビューしてきた。

--Can you tell me your name?

Caleb AkAStuntMan

--名前を教えてくれる？

ケイリブ、別名スタントマン。

--Where are you from and where do you live?

I’m from Atlanta Georgia, and I’ve lived in Orlando, Miami and Boston. I still have those houses and now I primarily live in Hollywood California.

--どこ出身で、今はどこに住んでるの？

アトランタ出身で、オーランド、マイアミ、ボストンに住み、今はほとんどハリウッドにいる。　今まで住んでた家もまだ全部持ってるけど。

--What do you do for living?

I own a few different companies and a partner in a few others. My main source of Business is High end and exotic vehicle sales and brokerage. So I sell exotic cars to celebrities and VIPs. And then I also do a lot of marketing, mostly youth and lifestyle and targeted demographic.

--仕事は何をしてるの？

いくつかの会社の経営と、他にもいくつかの会社でパートナーをやってる。メインのビジネスはエキゾチックカー（高級車）のセールス、ブローカー。エキゾチックカーをセレブリティやVIPに売るのが仕事。あと、ライフスタイル関連のマーケティング業も手がけている。

--Who are your clients?

Client wise, we try to keep it more as personal relationship so we don’t publicize our clients. Our client confidentiality is key.

--クライアントは誰なの？

クライアントとはより個人的な付き合いで、公に発表したり宣伝道具に使ったりはしない。守秘義務もあるし。

--Why do you wear all DC gear?

I support them, they support me. I’ve skateboarded for 16 years, race cars and I also ride BMX, dirt bike and quad, so for me, DC is more like a life style brand. To me, matching the car I’m driving that day, having a dope outfit for any club or bar for the night, skateboarding down Hollywood BLVD or riding one of my PK Rippers down Sunset BLVD. , With all that said. Driving shoes, skate shoes, BMX, all the life style that I am in one brand. So I choose DC.

--なんで全身DC Shoesでかためてるの？

オレはDCをサポートしてるし、彼らもオレをサポートしてくれている。スケボーは16年やってるし、クルマのレースやBMX、ダートバイク、そしてクアッドもやるオレにとって、DCはライフスタイルブランドなんだ。オレの運転するクルマ、クラブやバーに行く時のファッション、ハリウッドブルバードでやるスケボーにサンセットブルバードを下るPK リッパー、そしてそれに伴うドライビングシューズやスケートシューズ、BMXだとか、全部ひっくるめたオレのライフスタイル。それを一つのブランドでカヴァー出来ちゃう、それがDCなんだ。だからオレはDCを選ぶ。

--What’s your hobby?

Any action sports.Skydiving, skateboarding, dirt bikes, anything that’s extreme.

--趣味はなに？

アクションスポーツ全般。スカイダイビング、スケボー、ダートバイク、エクストリームなもの全て。

--What’s your work means to you?

The thing is, to me, it’s not money. It’s the friendship and bonds that I get from that. I’ve been very blessed in life with a lot of things and I have a wonderful business partner. But like, together, we didn’t come from a lot, but we made what we have work for us. And right now to me, like the friendships, I mean people have grown to be practically a family, blood cannot make us closer. That what means most to me. It’s like having a network of people behind me if I ever needed anything from them, they’d be there for me. So the money and all that will come and go. But friendships last forever.

--ケイリブにとって仕事とは？

まず、金じゃないね。少なくとも、オレにとっては。仕事から得られる友情や関係、それだね。オレは人生に恵まれていると思うし、素晴らしいビジネスパートナーもいる。決して裕福な家庭で生まれ育ったわけじゃないけど、自分たちで仕事をして得られたものに関しては満足もしている。今は家族並の関係の親友たちもいて、それがオレにとって一番重要なことさ。オレが何か必要であればいつでもヤツらがデバッてくれる。金は出たり入ったり。だけど友情は永遠だからな。

--Is there connection between your work and hobby?

Yea definitely. I mean a lot of the people that I meet end up clients or clients end up friends. A lot them I consider close friends and I go to dinner with or go to night club or travel with around the world.

--仕事と趣味に関連性はある？

間違いないね。偶然知り合ってクライアントになる連中もいれば、クライアントから友人になる奴等もいる。連中はオレの親しい友人であり、ディナーやクラブ、そして世界中を一緒に旅しているよ。

-When do you have the most fun?

Every day is fun to me. Every day is a new adventure. There’s really no way to say when I have the most fun. When I have the least fun is when I’m sleeping because 　there’s nothing going on.

--何してる時が一番楽しい？

毎日が楽しいね。毎日が新しいアドベンチャーだよ。だから、何かをやってる時が一番楽しい、とかは無いね。寝てる時が一番楽しくないね。だって何も起こらないんだもん。

--What are you most interested in doing right now?

Keeping strong name and developing many relationships and friendships.

--いま一番興味のある事は？

評判を落とさず、また色んな人とイイ関係や友情を築いていきたい。

-What car means to you?

I don’t know… I have such a love for cars. I love the feeling when you are driving down the street, people just stop and take a picture, or they just walk in the middle of the road and they have to say I love your car, and it’s a respect thing. They respect me for the car I drive and person I am, and I respect them for respecting me.

--最後に、ケイリブにとってクルマとは？

わからないな。クルマを本当に愛してるからね。クルマを運転してて街中で写真を撮られたり、道路の真ん中まで出てきて褒めてくれたり。そういうの嫌いじゃないんだ。それってリスペクトだろ。オレの運転しているクルマと運転しているオレをリスペクトしてくれてるってことで、その事に関してオレも彼らをリスペクトするんだ。
